OVERVIEW
Project Silverstar for AutoCAD® Civil 3D® 2012 is a free* technology preview that provides cloud-based optimization for vertical road alignments. Project Silverstar uses a new numerical cloud algorithm that uses modern mathematical optimization techniques to find optimal profiles for given horizontal alignments.
Points of Vertical Intersection (PVIs) are created automatically and the vertical and horizontal position of these PVIs are optimized with respect to total earthwork cost. The algorithm can handle multiple ground surface layers with different earthwork costs, and incorporates borrow and waste pits for different materials.
Only the Existing Ground (EG) centerline is needed for input. For greater accuracy of volume computations, centerline offsets can be submitted as well.
Results are sent back to the user and can be imported directly in to AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 via ASCII files or LandXML.
Latest Update
Based on user feedback, the latest update includes the following corrections:
- Server-side improvements with respect to the solving time
- More accurate volumes when using offsets (using fixed sample line distances and simple assemblies on the server side)
- Updated User Manual
- Updated Tutorial 2 Sample Drawing
Thanks to everyone for the feedback provided. Keep it coming.
AVAILABILITY
This is an English language utility that can be installed on any language version of AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 (64-bit only). Once installed, the new utility can be accessed and launched from the AutoCAD Civil 3D Toolbox. Although the technology preview will operate until August 1, 2012, the data craeted during the technology preview will continue to be valid even after the technology preview no longer operates.
