Generate solids for real-world civil objects.

The free* Corridor Solids Technology Preview for AutoCAD® Civil 3D® 2012 software provides functionality to create AutoCAD® solids from AutoCAD Civil 3D Subassembly shapes that are contained in an AutoCAD Civil 3D Corridor Model. By creating solids from subassembly shapes, representative real-world objects such as tunnels, retaining walls, and pavement layers can be more easily used for visual analysis, design verification, and construction coordination through enhanced model sharing between various project team members who are using applications such as Autodesk® Navisworks® 2012 products, Autodesk® Revit® Structure 2012, Autodesk® 3ds® Max Design 2012, and the new Autodesk® Infrastructure Modeler 2012 software.

Using the Corridor Solids Technology Preview, users can create AutoCAD solids in the current drawing or a new drawing by quickly extracting solids from the following objects:

  • All regions and baselines in a corridor
  • Sub-regions within a corridor (e.g., construction phases)
  • Specific subassembly shapes (e.g., retaining wall, tunnel, barrier)

Additional functionality enables users to define layer name structure to control object appearance for downstream use. Some of the benefits of using Corridor Solids include:

  • Enhanced visual interaction and performance within AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Improved model sharing between Civil 3D and Autodesk Revit products
  • Simplified corridor construction timelining in Autodesk Navisworks products
  • Enhanced visualization for project review in 3ds Max Design and Infrastructure Modeler

The Corridor Solids Technology Preview will work with legacy Civil 3D subassemblies or subassemblies created with the new Subassembly Composer for AutoCAD® Civil 3D® 2012 which is available for download from the Autodesk® Subscription Center.

AVAILABILITY

This is an English language utility that can be installed on any language version of AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 (x64 only) software. Once installed, the new utility can be accessed and launched from the AutoCAD Civil 3D Toolbox. This technology preview will operate until August 1, 2012.
