OVERVIEW

Welcome to the Bridge Modeler for AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 technology preview. This free* technology preview is available for AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 users and includes some important improvements that were suggested by users of the Bridge Modeler for AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 technology preview. We are pleased to be able to continue listening to your valuable feedback and look forward to hearing more from you on workflow improvements, fit in process, usability and anything else that you would like to share. The Bridge Modeler for AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 technology preview focuses on 2 workflows:

  1. Purpose-built workflow for modeling bridge road, barriers, piers, abutments, and bearings for bridge types including:

    • Concrete Box Girder
    • Concrete Slab
    • Concrete Slab with Girders
  2. Ability to extract strings along a bridge and create Civil 3D alignments which can be then used to display key bridge elements onto Civil 3D profiles.

What’s New?

Those of you who have been using the 2011 version of the Bridge Modeler for AutoCAD Civil 3D technology preview will find the following improvements:

  • Support for Civil 3D 2012
  • Variable height girders (steel girder type)
  • Independent control over girder type by span
  • Independent control over girder spacing, symmetry, number, etc. by bridge span
  • Ability to create Civil 3D alignments and profiles from bridge strings (e.g., lowest girder per span, top/bottom of barrier, etc.)
  • Resolution of miscellaneous stability issues

For those who are also using Autodesk Revit Structure, there is a unique workflow that is available where bridge modeling can also be initiated and completed using the Revit Extensions for Revit Structure 2012 (Including October Update). We are very excited about this workflow as it enables streamlined sharing of model elements between Civil 3D and Revit Structure including:

  1. Import Civil 3D corridor (alignment, profiles and road slope/width), surface and bridge models into Revit Structure
  2. Create bridge model in Revit Structure. Note - The Revit Bridge modeling extension includes similar bridge types as you will find in the Bridge Modeler for AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 technology preview. However, there are additional modeling options that are available.
  3. Publish bridge modeled in Revit Structure into Civil 3D.
  4. Extract bridge strings as alignments directly from bridges modeled in either Civil 3D or Revit Structure

Important information

  • The Bridge Modeler for AutoCAD Civil 3D technology preview is licensed for a limited term and for a particular territory as referenced in the End User License Agreement. The technology preview executable expires at the end of the technology preview based on a time-bomb date (July 1, 2012).
