3D/2D ShareNow Add-in for AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit, and Design Review

Technology Preview

These add-ins publish a design from AutoCAD, Inventor, Inventor LT, Revit, or Design Review to the Project Freewheel server. With one click of the ShareNow icon, your design application will publish a DWF file of your current design, upload it to Project Freewheel, and invoke the browser with a view of your design. You can then leverage all of the benefits that Project Freewheel has to offer - without installing additional software. Collaborate with your team members on Microsoft Windows, Apple Macintosh OSX, or Linux. They can use Internet Explorer or Firefox. They can use a PC, Mac, PDS, Cell phone -- whatever has a compatible browser with an internet connection.

To get started:

  1. You download the installer ZIP file.
  2. You unzip it.
  3. You pick the installer that you want:
    • AutodeskShareNowSetup.msi (AutoCAD, Inventor/LT, and Revit) [32-bit and 64-bit versions]
    • DesignReview2009ShareNowSetup.exe (Autodesk Design Review 2009) [32-bit]
  4. You execute the desired installer.
  5. The next time you fire up your application, ShareNow is available. This invokes new functionality.
    • AutoCAD: New ShareNow and ShareDSD commands are added. These appear as icons on a floating toolbar. You can move and dock this toolbar as desired. ShareNow shares the current drawing. ShareNow shares a set of drawings saved as a sheet set.
    • Autodesk Inventor: ShareNow appears as a command on the File menu. A fly-out lets you elect to publish the current document to Project Freewheel or publish all loaded documents to Project Freewheel.
    • Autodesk Inventor LT Technology Preview: To make ShareNow available, open any part, right click on the toolbar, choose "Customize", and go to "Command" tab. Drag and drop the two new ShareNow icons to the toolbar.
    • Autodesk Revit: Icons for sharing the current view of the building information model and sharing all views of the building information model appear.
    • Autodesk Design Review: The File->Freewheel menu now publishes to Project Freewheel.

To use it:

  1. You load a design into the application.
  2. You click the ShareNow icon or select it from the menu
  3. The application publishes your design and invokes your browser to show your design in Project Freewheel.
  4. You use Share->Start to start a sharing session. You pick a name for your session like "AcmeMarch29."
  5. You call your teammate and ask him to go to the Project Freewheel site and join the AcmeMarch29 session. Alternatively you can email your teammate a link.
  6. Your teammate sees your design. You pan. He sees it. He zooms. You see it. He adds a markup comment. You see it. You collaborate.

You can see the read me for additional information. So start sharing now.

The ShareNow installer ZIP file contains two installers: one for AutoCAD/Inventor/Inventor LT/Revit; the other for Design Review. Autodesk Design Review users use the installer specifically for Autodesk Design Review. Users of other applications supported by ShareNow use the AutodeskShareNowSetup.msi installer.
