FAQ

This section contains answers to frequently asked questions regarding Project Twitch.

  1. How far away from the San Francisco Bay Area can I be to still participate?
Originally we limited access to users that were 1,000 miles from the San Francisco Bay Area. Recently, we changed the coverage to include all of USA and Canada and use a network latency test to determine if the actual distance provides a pleasant user experience.

  2. What do I do if I get a warning or error message after the initial network test?
There are a number of reasons why you might get an error message or warning. The network test checks your network connection to make sure that it meets the requirements for connection speed and latency. If you feel that your connection meets the requirements please check the following:

    • Shut down other programs running on your PC.
    • Make sure you are on a wired internet connection (not wi-fi).
    • If you are on a laptop running on battery power, plug it in.
    • Shut down any bandwidth intensive applications you may have running.
    • Temporarily pause IP phone services such as Skype, Vonage, or MagicJack.

  3. Will you provide support for editing and saving for files?
The first objective of the Twitch project is to test the functionality and usability of the remote delivery of our applications. The infrastructure to support uploading or downloading files or storing them on our servers is something we are evaluating but we wanted to focus on the first component to make sure that the service delivered an experience that was acceptable to our users before moving forward with full file support.

  4. Every time I connect I see the generic set up. All my customization and settings are lost. Why can't I save my preferences and settings?
As with file support the first objective of the Twitch project is to test the functionality and usability of the remote delivery of our applications. Setting up support for managing user preferences, settings and state of the application is something we are evaluating. The focus was to ensure that the service delivered an experience that was acceptable to our users before moving forward with full file support.

  5. Do plan on offering remote access to your applications as a commercial service?
We continue to evaluate the quality and usability of this type of application delivery, the technology that enables it, as well as the demand for it. Software as a service is being considered as an alternative. Autodesk has no plans to abandon its desktop applications.

  6. Why am I denied access to the service even though my monitor supports 32-bit color?
Verify that your Display Settings are set to 32-bit color.

  7. Why Am I not able to connect to the service from my Enterprise Network?
Please make sure your Enterprise Network is configured as described below:

    • The Autodesk Trials Service runs on the following IP addresses: 74.201.87.192/28 (.192-.207).
    • The system protocol uses destination UDP ports 16384 through 16640 and TCP destination ports 80 & 443.
  8. If I need to contact someone, how do I get help?
Please send an email to labs.trials@autodesk.com. We will be reading the emails and responding to issues.
